Generator rotor temperature

Monitor temperature for each rotor pole

Purpose

Monitor temperature individually for all rotor poles to get early detection of damage / wear.

Reduce downtime caused by damage and corrective maintenance. Improve ability to do preventive maintenance.

Technical summary

Increased temperature for a rotor pole can indicate breakdown of pole winding insulation. Increased pole temperature can affect material expansion for the different parts of the rotor pole that leads to an increase in material stress and possibly deformation.

The phase sensor keeps track of which rotor pole is in front of the temperature sensor at any given time. The temperature sensor is mounted in a stator ventilation hole where the sensor tip is flush with the inside of the stator.

Measured rotor pole temperature can be based on a time interval or a number of revolutions.
